Name of Operation: ALMA EASOM PRIME TIME Facility ID: 26001634 Consultant: YOLANDA PRIDGEN Operation Type: Center Case Number: Visit Date: 9/16/2025 Number Present: 26 Completed Date: 9/16/2025 Age: From 5 To 7 Total Minutes: 120 Time In: 03:00 PM Time Out: 05:00 PM Time In: Time Out: List to Use: Center Type Of Visit: Routine Unannounced Announced/Unannounced: Unannounced The purpose of today's visit was to monitor compliance with applicable child care requirements pertinent to a Routine Unannounced Visit including health and safety training requirements. The previous Annual Compliance Visit was completed March 12, 2025, and prior to today’s visit, the eighteen-month compliance history score was 100% which is at or above 75%, as required by North Carolina General Statute 110-90(4)(c-d). This program currently operates with a Three (3) Star License issued May 30, 2017. The License was based on the program earning four (4) points in education standards, two (2) points in program standards, and one (1) quality point by choosing to meet a programmatic option: Staff Benefits Package and Infrastructure of Parent Involvement. The information on record with DCDEE was verified as correct by Sheila McLaughlin. Sheila McLaughlin, Program Coordinator, was present and accompanied me while observing the indoor areas. The license restriction stated: “Playground area does not meet child care playground safety standards.” Upon arrival, activity centers throughout the classroom prior the children arriving. Children were encouraged to place their belongings in plastic bins and complete hand washing routines in preparation for mealtime. Snack served was blueberry muffins and milk. Following snack, children cleaned their areas and staff escorted to bathrooms in the hallway. Upon return, the whole group were escorted outdoors for free play. Children were observed bouncing on large balls, climbing and sliding on stationary equipment, and running around chasing each other. Staff greeted children and families as they departed the facility. A staff and training worksheet was received and monitored during today’s visit. All staff files were observed. The most current fire drill was conducted September 4, 2025. Although the playground area does not meet child care playground safety standards, a monthly playground inspection was completed on August 26, 2025. A quarterly lockdown or shelter-in-place had not been completed since school began on August 25, 2025. At the completion of the visit, the Visit Summary was reviewed with S. McLaughlin. The following violation was observed: Violation Number Comment Rule 840 All corrosive agents, pesticides, bleaches, detergents, cleansers, polishes, any product which is under pressure in an aerosol dispenser, and any substance which may be hazardous to a child if ingested, inhaled, or handled were not stored in a locked room or cabinet. Accessible to children in care, a container of Clorox disinfecting wipes were stored on the computer desk in the cafeteria. The violation was corrected when the site director placed the Clorox wipes in the locked kitchen area. .2820(b) Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. The violations observed and documented today may impact the compliance history score. The violation observed and documented today was corrected immediately therefore a compliance letter is not required. Facility Specific TA/Consultation/Reminders: Classroom Observation: I discussed the classroom observation conducted during today’s visit with S. McLaughlin. I observed the program from 3:05pm-3:30pm. Staff monitored children as they completed daily routines of putting their belongings in storage bins, completing personal care routines, and consuming snack. Teachers greeted children and discussed their day in school. Interest centers were set up with age-appropriate activities and materials. Interest centers included STEM, Building Zone, Game Galaxy, Reading, Art, and Character Cove. Staff accompanied children outdoors for free play. Staff and children were engaged in meaningful conversations throughout the visit. I encourage staff to continue moving throughout the space when monitoring children, interacting with children, and asking about their interests. Storage of Hazardous Items: The violation for storage of hazardous items was cited today. A container of Clorox Disinfecting Wipes were accessible to children in care. Properly storing hazardous materials is important because if in reach of children, may present a poison hazard if ingested, inhaled, or handled. I shared that additional information regarding the storage of medication can be found in Child Care Sanitation Rule 15A NCAC 18A.2820(b). A copy of the “Hazardous Items Storage for Child Care” resource may be obtained from our website. We also discussed the following strategies for achieving and maintaining compliance: review the resource with staff at your next staff meeting; remind staff to check behind the other; and periodically check classroom spaces throughout the day to ensure all hazardous items are locked. School-aged Professional Development Opportunities: The Cumberland County Partnership for Children is sponsoring the “Let’s Get Connected” The School Aged Connection. The in-person event focuses on creating a safe and inclusive community for sharing and learning new concepts. This learning event is for directors and school-age staff only (newly hired and/or seasoned Group Leaders). Training topics to be covered are: growth and development, classroom management, learning environments, building relationships, safety and wellness, positive behaviors, activity planning, and sanitation.
