The purpose of today’s unannounced visit was to monitor child care requirements in the licensed space (classroom B107). This NC Pre-K program operates with a five-star license, which was issued on 12/18/18. The last Annual Compliance visit was conducted on 4/18/23. The compliance history for this center for the previous eighteen-month timeframe was 96%. Child care requirements were monitored today in the licensed classroom. Observations: Upon arrival the children were washing their hands and preparing to walk to the school cafeteria for lunch. There were 15 children, age 4 and 5, present today. The teacher stated that four NC Pre-K children were enrolled in the classroom. Nine of the 15 children brought a lunch box from home. I observed the teachers checking the contents of the lunch boxes and providing the children with a school lunch to meet the NC Child Care nutrition requirements. One child had a signed opted-out form on file. After lunch, I observed circle time. The child wrote a “k” on the board, before putting on their jackets for outdoor play. I observed the children enjoying the outdoor environment. CHILDREN’S FILES: Children’s files were not reviewed today. STAFF FILES: By reviewing documentation from the 4/18/23 Annual Compliance visit I verified that the school administrator and both teachers had current CPR/First Aid training and a current Criminal Record Check status. INSPECTIONS: The last documented annual fire inspection was conducted on 10/12/23. The last documented sanitation inspection was conducted on 4/13/23. The last documented fire drill was conducted on 9/22/23. The last documented lockdown drill was conducted on 9/20/23. The last playground inspection was conducted on 10/9/23. The following violations were cited today: Violation Number Comment Rule 428 A current activity plan was not posted for each group of children for reference. The activity plan for this week was completed for today's activities. There were not activities recorded on the plan for Tuesday - Friday of this week. GS 110-91(12); .0508(a) 9999 NC Sanitation Rule 15A NCAC 18A ,2820 (f) stated that pocketbooks should be stored out of the reach of children. Staff pocketbooks were stored in the classroom closet, where the cots were stored. The pocketbooks were stored at a level that was accessible to the children. All violations must be corrected immediately. Please send me a signed Corrective Action letter by 10/30/23, stating how the violation cited today has been corrected. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED TODAY ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: RATED LICENSE: The Rated License three-year reassessment process has resumed. Sandy Ridge Pre-K has been placed in Cohort 1 for reassessment. The preparation year for the assessment is from 7/1/23 through 6/30/24. The assessment year will begin for Sandy Ridge on 7/1/24.
