Name of Operation: GROWING LEGACY EARLY LEARNING CENTER Facility ID: 32002287 Consultant: TONI FULLER Operation Type: Center Case Number: Visit Date: 1/8/2025 Number Present: 18 Completed Date: 1/8/2025 Age: From 0 To 5 Total Minutes: 135 Time In: 09:45 AM Time Out: 12:00 PM Time In: Time Out: List to Use: Center Type Of Visit: Routine Unannounced Announced/Unannounced: Unannounced Upon arrival the owner/director greeted me. The purpose of today’s unannounced visit was to monitor applicable child care requirements during a Routine Unannounced visit. This center operates with a five-star license, which was issued on 8/4/21. The last Annual Compliance visit was conducted on 7/15/24. COMPLIANCE HISTORY: The compliance history for this center for the previous eighteen-month timeframe was 97%. During today’s visit all indoor and outdoor licensed space was monitored. I observed the children engaged in free play activities. Menus and food allergies were posted. One two-year old child was having speech therapy in classroom space #4. I verified that the therapist had Criminal Record Check clearance. CURRICULUM: This center implements the Fun Shine curriculum. The Creative Curriculum is implemented in the NC Pre-K classroom. Each classroom had current activity plans. TRANSPORTATION: The Chevrolet van with license number HLS-1890 was not monitored today. The van was monitored for transportation requirements during the 7/15/24 Annual Compliance visit. INSPECTIONS: The last documented annual fire inspection was completed on 4/30/24. The last documented sanitation inspection was conducted on 12/20/24. The last documented fire drill was conducted on 12/12/24. The last documented lockdown drill was conducted on 11/1/24. The last documented playground inspection was completed on 12/12/24. The last documented water testing for Clean Water for NC Kids was completed on 3/20/24. The following violations were cited today: Violation Number Comment Rule 812 Electrical outlets and power strips, not in use, which were located in space used by children did not have safety outlets or were not covered with safety plugs unless located behind furniture or equipment that cannot be moved by a child. There was an uncovered outlet on a power strip in classroom space #2a/2b. There was an uncovered outlet in the hallway between classroom space #1 and #3. 10A NCAC 09 .0604(c) 840 All corrosive agents, pesticides, bleaches, detergents, cleansers, polishes, any product which is under pressure in an aerosol dispenser, and any substance which may be hazardous to a child if ingested, inhaled, or handled were not stored in a locked room or cabinet. The closet, off classroom space #4, was unlocked during today's visit. The closet contained aerosol cans and hazardous cleaning supplies. The owner/director stated that the lock on the door was broken, and a new lock had been ordered. .2820(b) All violations must be corrected immediately. Please send me a signed Corrective Action letter by 1/23/24, stating how each violation has been corrected. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE was provided today in the following areas: OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT: Black netting was under the mulch on the larger playground. The netting was currently visible in places. Please trim the netting to eliminate it becoming a tripping hazard for the children. STAFF: The owner/director stated that there was no new staff employed at this center. One of the teachers in the NC Pre-K classroom today was not listed on the staff/training worksheet for the 2024 Annual Compliance visit. The owner/director stated that the teacher worked in the NC Pre-K classroom (classroom space 2a/2b) at this location during the school operating year. During the summer months she worked at the sister site on University Drive in Durham. I stated that the teacher should be listed on both worksheets. During today’s visit I verified the staff requirements for the teacher. RATED LICENSE: Please know that the “hold harmless” status for Rated License reassessment has been extended until the new QRIS guidelines are ready for implementation. CLEAN CLASSROOMS FOR CAROLINA KIDS: This center completed the video and started the required steps to complete the Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids process. On 12/31/24 I received an email stating the this center and the sister center (Growing Legacy 32002307) have not completed the process by supplying RTI with the centers plans to remediate the lead-based paint hazards. The owner/director stated that the issue had been corrected at both sites.
