An example is: Jane Doe, Administrator AAA Child Care ID # 12345678 Consultation and Technical Assistance The owner and I discussed the following: Loose-fill surfacing materials used to provide impact absorption beneath play equipment should be checked frequently to ensure surfacing is of sufficient depth and has not shifted or displaced significantly, especially in areas under swings and slide exits. Missing or displaced loose-fill surfacing should be raked back into proper place or replaced so that a constant depth is maintained throughout the playground. The number one cause of injury on playgrounds falls to the surface. Maintaining the correct depth of loose-fill material is crucial for safety. Surfaces should be shock-absorbing. Rule Reference 10A NCAC 09 .0605 OUTDOOR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT IN CHILD CARE CENTERS The depth of the loose surfacing material shall be based on the critical height of the equipment, which is defined as the maximum height that a child may sit, or stand, as follows: (1) equipment with a critical height of 5 feet or less shall have 6 inches of loose surface materials; (2) equipment with a critical height of more than 5 feet, but less than 7 feet, shall have 6 inches of loose surfacing material, except for sand; (3) equipment with a critical height of 7 feet to 10 feet shall have 9 inches of any of the loose surfacing material, except for sand; and Protective surfacing shall cover the area under and around equipment where a child may fall, referred to as the fall zone. 10A NCAC 09 .2703 CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD CHECK REQUIREMENTS FOR CHILD CARE PROVIDERS (n) The qualification letter shall be valid for a maximum of five years from the date of issuance. The depth of the loose surfacing was not based on the critical height of the equipment. .0605(k)(1-4) Two violations were cited during today’s visit. Technical assistance was given to the provider to ensure compliance. The violation(s) documented must be corrected immediately. On or before 9-17-25, I must receive a written, dated, and signed compliance letter that describes accurately and in detail how and when the violations were corrected. Also, please provide information regarding how the facility will maintain compliance in the future. Please be aware that any information submitted by you is considered legal documentation. Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. Any violation(s) documented may impact the compliance history score. If it is determined the information provided in the letter is not true, this may be considered falsification of information. If sufficient information is not received by the due date, a follow-up visit will be conducted. Email the information to: Gilette Parker, Child Care Consultant Gilette.parker@dhhs.nc.gov If you email the compliance letter, it must be sent from the email address registered with the DCDEE (this serves as your signature) and the following information must be included: name, position, facility name, and facility ID number. An example is: Jane Doe, Administrator AAA Child Care ID # 12345678 Technical Assistance The providers and I discussed the following topics, EPI pens, medication forms, surfacing on the playground, peeling paint. For all children with a history of anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), or for those with peanut and/or tree nut allergy (whether or not they have had anaphylaxis), epinephrine should be readily available. This will usually be provided as a premeasured dose in an auto-injector, such as EpiPen or EpiPen Jr. Specific indications for administration of epinephrine should be provided in the detailed care plan. Within the context of state laws, appropriate personnel should be prepared to administer epinephrine when needed. The indoor and outdoor play areas and equipment should be inspected daily Rust and chipping or peeling paint. The number one cause of injury on playgrounds is falls to the surface. Maintaining the correct depth of loose-fill material is crucial for safety. Surfaces should be shock-absorbing. Cold temperatures may cause “packing,” which causes the surface material to lose shock-absorbing capacity. The depth of the loose surfacing material shall be based on the critical height of the equipment, which is defined as the maximum height that a child may sit, or stand, equipment with a critical height of 5 feet or less shall have 6 inches of loose surface materials; A parent may give a caregiver standing authorization for up to 12 months to apply over-the- counter, topical ointments, topical teething ointment or gel, insect repellents, lotions, creams, fluoridated toothpaste, and powders, such as sunscreen, diapering creams, baby lotion, and baby powder, to a child, when needed. The new QRIS options regarding the three Pathways are online. Please go to our website DCDEE to become knowledgeable about the changes that came into effect July 1, 2025. Make sure all new staff have updated WORKS accounts to reflect all current and completed coursework.
