This center has a five-star license and an 18-month compliance history of 100%. The NC child care law summary were prominently posted. I was greeted by M. Henderson, site coordinator. I conducted a walkthrough of the facility. Staff/child ratio, Supervision, capacity, group size and space were observed in compliance today. Group 1 there were 9 children present with the site coordinator. Group 2 there were 17 children present with a substitute staff. The center’s Emergency Drill Log and Report was reviewed. Fire drills were reviewed. Shelter in place and Lock down drills were monitored. The playground safety inspections were reviewed. Reports were documented monthly as required. The center last had a sanitation inspection on 9/18/24. The center received 2 demerits and a superior classification. The inspection was completed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department. The center last had a fire inspection on 7/31/24. Staff and Children’s DPI verification forms were monitored today. The outdoor area was monitored today. The children were observed arriving and participating in arrival, handwashing, and snack. I used the staff and training worksheet to monitor staff files. During review of staff files, Margaret Velasquez and Diane Harris criminal background qualification letters expired November 2024. They do not have a current letter on file. I also monitored the ABCMS system for verification. Margaret Velasquez and Diane Harris have until 2/19/2025 to get a current criminal background qualification letter on file. If current letters are not on file by 2/19/2025 they are not permitted to work until current letters are on file. There were 2 violations cited during today’s visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 1757 A valid qualification letter was not on file and available to review at the facility. Margaret Velasquez and Diane Harris do not have a valid qualification letter on file. G.S. 110-90.2(b) & (d) & .2703(e) 1899 Health and safety training topics were not included as part of on-going training within five years of completing the previous health and safety training topics. 2 staff members have not completed all the health and safety trainings for the 5 year mark. .1103(b) Technical Assistance: -The staff and training worksheet was updated after provider signature. -Hold Harmless has been extended until the new QRIS is implemented (SB 425). -Use this time for staff to update their information in the WORKS database.
