Upon arrival, I was greeted Mrs. McVay and restated the purpose of my visit. Today’s visit was conducted with you, Vanessa L. McVay. This facility currently operates with a five (5) star rated license effective June 19, 2019. This facility serves two shifts with a max of five children an no more than two children under one. Today there were four children present, children were observed actively engaged in centers, (dramatic play, blocks, fine motor, and art). Transitioning to toileting, handwashing, eating; and napping were also observed. Children were served sausage, tater tots, mandarin oranges, and milk for lunch. The attached checklist was used to note the requirements monitored. The appropriate verification and statement of responsibility forms were received via email prior to this visit. Staff and children’s records were reviewed today. The provider stated she does not have any firearms onsite. INSPECTIONS: The last sanitation inspection was conducted 07-2024. The last documented fire drill was conducted 5-1-2025. The last documented shelter-in-place or lockdown drill was conducted 3-12-2025. The last documented playground inspection was conducted 05-1-2025. The last compliance history was 99% prior to today’s visit. I monitored the following items today: Supervision, Staff/child ratio, health, transportation, safety, program and management. During this visit we discussed the new family childcare environment scales third edition, and the new star rated license. I also created a letter to submit to your insurance agency concerning your expired license and explaining your hold harmless status. Violation Number Comment Rule 709 Equipment and toys were not in good repair and developmentally appropriate. several toys/vehicles did not have batteries and did not work as required. 10 A NCAC 09.1720(a)(7) Violations: Any Violations observed today were discussed with you and documented on the visit summary and left with you at the conclusion of this visit. The following violations of child care requirements were cited during today’s visit and must be corrected immediately. Technical assistance on how to maintain compliance with the violations cited today was provided. Comments: It is important for licensed providers to be knowledgeable of all the licensing requirements that apply to their type of program. Child care consultants can make unannounced visits at any time. It is the provider's responsibility to be in compliance with all the applicable laws and rules. REQUIRED RESPONSE: You are required to always maintain compliance with all applicable child care rules and regulations. NC GS 110-90(4)(d) requires all child care facilities to maintain a compliance history score of at least 75% for the past 18 months or during the length of time the facility has operated, whichever is less. Failure to do so may result in the issuance of a provisional license or other administrative action. If any violations cited today may negatively affect this score. Technical Assistance: Rated License: We discussed the Environmental Rating Scales, and you stated that you are not interested in doing the assessment again. If you decide against having the Environmental rating scales (ERS) assessment, you will drop in star rating. You will receive a seven in education, two in Program standards, one Quality point for a score of ten points and four stars. You also have an option for getting an accreditation to help you maintain five stars. *Contact CCRI for assistance with preparing for the ERS, if you change your mind and are ready.
