The facility had a Five Star Rated License issued May 29, 2018 and an eighteen month compliance history of 96% prior to today’s visit. The November 2024 FCCH Item Number Listing and the March 2023 Annual Compliance Checklist were used to monitor today. A copy of the Annual Compliance Checklist was left with the operator. The license and NC Summary of the Law were prominently posted. Upon arrival I was greeted by Ms. E. Furtick, owner/operator, and I explained the purpose of my visit. Ms. Furtick was present with five (5) enrolled preschool children between the ages of one year old and four years old. There are a total of five (5) preschool children and one (1) school-aged child enrolled on first shift and there are currently no children enrolled on second shift. Children were observed in free play, transitional activities, mealtime and personal care routines. During today’s visit the licensed childcare space, hallway adjacent to the licensed childcare space, the program’s bathroom, the program’s outdoor learning environment and the program’s kitchen was monitored. While conducting the walk-through of the childcare space it was observed that the posted lesson plan was not current, as it was dated January 2025. This was brought to Ms. Furtick’s attention and she informed me that the current lesson plan was on her desk but had forgotten to post it. She then removed the previous month’s lesson plan and posted the one dated February 2025. The outdoor learning environment was monitored, and it was observed that there was a small plastic Little Tykes sliding board present with a small chip and a crack approximately 5 inches long on the lower right corner. This was shared with Ms. Furtick, as it poses a safety hazard and needs to be either repaired or made inaccessible for children. Ms. Furtick was able to remove it during outside time. The FCCH was within capacity and adequate supervision was observed. I reviewed Ms. Furtick’s file. All specialized trainings were current. Ms. Furtick is required to receive eight (8) in-service training hours annually. She currently has received eleven (11) and brought over four (4) hours from the previous year. She will carry over four (4) into the next monitoring year. All household members have current CBC qualifying letters. Ms. Furtick had a file available for review for all enrolled children. I reviewed four children’s files and each was found to be compliant. Ms. Furtick stated she does not provide transportation, but a vehicle was observed available for emergency use. Ms. Furtick stated that no children require any medication at this time. Program records were monitored. Fire and emergency drills were completed as required. Outdoor inspections for the past twelve months were completed as required. The Emergency Response and Preparedness Plan/Ready to Go File was reviewed. Each was observed to have been last updated as required and contain all updated information. The last sanitation inspection was completed 03/19/24 and received no demerits. There were two (2) violations cited today. However, there is no corrective action plan due currently. As each violation was corrected during today’s visit.
