The facility currently operates with a Four Star Child Care License that was issued on March 12, 2020. The last annual compliance visit was conducted on April 9, 2025. Upon arrival, I signed in at the school’s main office and then proceeded to the Site Director’s office. The children were observed arriving in the cafeteria, washing their hands preparing for and eating snack. During today’s visit, a full assessment of applicable Child Care Requirements was conducted. The following violations were observed. Violation Number Comment Rule 843 A drug or medicine was administered after its expiration date. Epi Pens for two children were expired and had not been replaced or returned to the parents. 10A NCAC 09 .0803(1)(d) 1811 Shelter-in-place or lockdown drills were not practiced every three months and/or drill record was incomplete. The last recorded shelter-in-place or lock down drill was recorded in 11/2025. .0604(u);.0302(d)(8) The above violations must be corrected immediately. A Corrective Action Letter must be drafted and sent to me by March 25, 2026. You can email the letter to me at caroline.sykes@dhhs.nc.gov The letter should include: -Facility name -Facility ID number -Each item number If a compliance letter is not received to my office by 5:00 PM March 25, 2026, a return visit may be conducted to ensure the violations cited have been corrected or addressed. Additional violation may be documented if each violation has not been properly corrected or otherwise addressed. Please be aware that any information received during this monitoring visit and any violations cited may be included in any future administrative actions. Violations of child care requirements, particularly repeated violations, could result in a civil penalty and/or administrative action that could jeopardize the status of the license for the child care facility. The staff were provided an opportunity to ask questions regarding interpretation and implementation of all child care requirements. Child care licensing rules and regulations are established to ensure a safe and healthy environment for children in care. Therefore, it is important for staff to be knowledgeable of all of the licensing requirements that apply to this program. The best way for you to make sure that you are meeting all requirements is to periodically review the child care law and rules. Both are available on the DCDEE website https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/, on the home page under the ‘Services’ tab. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: A violation was cited regarding expired medications not being returned to parents or discarded. We discussed the importance of medications being returned or discarded when expired. Emergency medications should be replaced upon expiration if still needed. A violation was cited regarding emergency drills. Shelter-In-Place and/or Lock Down drills need to be practiced on a quarterly basis. The practice of these drills help children and staff know what to do in the event that an emergency arises. RESOURCES: -The Health and Safety Trainings are offered on the DCDEE Moodle format. The last sanitation inspection was on March 10, 2025 with a "superior" classification. The last fire inspection was completed on October 22, 2024. Upon arrival, I signed in at the school’s main office and then proceeded to the Site Director’s office. The children were observed arriving in the cafeteria, washing their hands preparing for and eating snack and playing a group game. During today’s visit, a full assessment of applicable Child Care Requirements was conducted. The following violations were observed. Violation Number Comment Rule 842 A drug or medication was administered without written authorization and/or instructions from a child's parent or authorized health professional. There were 2 epi pens for children enrolled in the program that did not have written authorization or the authorization form had expired. 10A NCAC 09 .0803(1)(a & b) 843 A drug or medicine was administered after its expiration date. Two staff members had not completed their on going training as required. .1103(a) 1898 Staff did not complete the health and safety training within one year of employment. There was not record of three staff members completing their Health and Safety Trainings within one year of employment and every five years following. .1102(a) The above violations must be corrected immediately.
