The last Annual Compliance Visit was conducted on May 2, 2024. This facility operates with a Five (5) Star License, which was issued on May 2, 2024. Upon arrival to the facility, I reported to the office and proceeded to the classroom. There, I was greeted by Ms. Heather Carson, lead teacher, who assisted me during today’s visit. I conducted a walkthrough of the indoor and outdoor learning space. The children were observed participating free play in centers, teachers directed activities, routines, preparing for lunch and resting. The last fire inspection was conducted on March 13, 2025, and was approved for daytime care only. The last Sanitation Inspection was conducted on February 2, 2025. The program received a ‘Superior’ rating. A full assessment of child care requirements was monitored during today’s visit. These included supervision, staff/child ratio, required postings, such as the license, summary of child care laws. I also monitored a sampling of children’s records, staff files, and completed the monitoring of the program records. The following violations were observed cited and technical assistance was provided. Violation Number Comment Rule 1757 A valid qualification letter was not on file and available to review at the facility. The Principal of this facility does not have the DCDEE Criminal Background qualifying letter on file. G.S. 110-90.2(b) & (d) & .2703(e) 1811 Shelter-in-place or lockdown drills were not practiced every three months and/or drill record was incomplete. Documentation of these drills indicate that they are not practiced quarterly. Dates included in documentation was 10/2024, 3/2025 and 4/2025. .0604(u);.0302(d)(8) 1893 Distance learning was used to complete First Aid, CPR and/or playground safety training. The CPR/First Aid Training acquired by the staff at this location was partially completed by use of Distance Learning. 10A NCAC 09 .1102(c-e); 10A NCAC 09 .1105(3) The above violations must be corrected immediately. A Corrective Action Letter must be drafted describing how and when the violations were corrected. Please include the name and identification number of your facility, as well as your electronic signature. The letter must be received by my office on or before May 5, 2025. This includes all Principals, Assistant Principles, therapists, school medical staff, teaching staff and bus drivers if left alone with children. Lock/down and shelter-in-place drills must be conducted quarterly. If the DPI does not complete the drills quarterly, teaching staff for the Pre-K classrooms must conduct their classroom drills as required by DCDEE rule. CPR/First Aid training must be completed entirely “In-Person”. Distant learning for this training is not allowed post COVID. The work is hard and can be both incredibly rewarding and exhausting at the same time. Being responsible for children all day requires energy, patience, and staying calm when children are not. Teachers, family child care professionals and directors need to be ready to respond to children's developmental needs with compassion and creativity to provide the relationships and environments that children need to thrive. In this training, we will start with YOU and your stress and support you in developing an action plan to reduce stress and thrive! We will practice and emphasize the importance of self-reflection, self-awareness, self-care. Staff of the ITTI Care Project, a multi-level trauma-informed approach to promoting child care workforce wellness and relationship-based child care environments, provide an interactive training designed to help you prioritize workday wellness and reduce stress.
