Upon arrival the group was engaged in free play with cardboard and wooden blocks, dramatic play materials, Legos, Duplo’s, and playdough. Teachers moved about the space, talking to and engaging with the children. After free play the children took turns discussing what they did during free play, teachers assisted with hints about what they witnessed the children do. Children’s artwork was displayed on the wall and shelves around the classroom. The outdoor area includes a stationary climber and storage barn where extra materials are stored. Proper handwashing procedures were observed. Lunch was observed and consisted of sweet Thai chicken, brown rice, mini corn dogs, sweet potato waffle fries, broccoli with cheese, and milk. An example is: Jane Doe, Administrator AAA Child Care ID # 12345678 Technical Assistance: Playground Safety - Regular outdoor inspections are critical to prevent deterioration of equipment and accumulation of hazardous materials in the play. It also ensures that appropriate repairs are made as soon as possible. The outdoor play area should be inspected daily to ensure the materials are in good repair and ready for use by the children. The wooden barn located on the playground has 2 broken boards and nails protruding. You stated you had not noticed the broken boards or nails and you would put in a work order today to have it repaired. Per our discussion, items such as these should be monitored and repaired during your monthly and daily inspections of the playground space. This ensures that the space is always safe and ready for use by the children. Reminders: Playground Safety – As the weather warms up, staff need to monitor more closely for wasp nests, fire ant hills, and other signs of pests that could be harmful to children. All equipment should be checked daily for wasp nests as they can be built overnight. Check the eaves of the play house, the storage shed, and under the climbing equipment. Check the ground for holes that might signal ground bees or mounds of sand that could be fire ant hills. If signs of pests are found, they must be addressed immediately. No pests were observed today.
