    Name of Operation: TOTALLY AWESOME KIDS PRESCHOOL LLC Facility ID: 76000500 Consultant: MONA NDIAYE Operation Type: Center Case Number: Visit Date: 3/8/2024 Number Present: 21 Completed Date: 3/8/2024 Age: From 2 To 5 Total Minutes: 120 Time In: 09:30 AM Time Out: 11:30 AM Time In: Time Out: List to Use: Center Type Of Visit: Annual Comp Full Announced/Unannounced: Unannounced The purpose of today’s unannounced annual compliance visit was to monitor for child care requirements applicable to a child care center. Sharon Lawson, was present and assisted me during today’s visit. I completed a walk-through of the facility, attendance was documented, and observations were made. The children were observed participating in free play in their classrooms. The last annual compliance visit was conducted March 31, 2023. The center is operating under a One Star License that was issued January 24, 2019. The last sanitation inspection was conducted December 12, 2023 the center received an Superior rating. The last fire inspection was conducted April 12, 2023. Fire drills and playground inspections were monitored. During today’s visit, a full assessment of applicable Child Care Requirements was conducted. The following violation was observed during today’s visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 847 Parent's medication authorization did not include required information. One child had and Epi-Pen that did not have a parental authorization on file. 10A NCAC 09 .0803(4)(6-9) The above violation must be corrected immediately, and a letter must be sent to me no later than March 16, 2024 stating how each item was corrected and a plan to maintain compliance with the requirement. If I do not receive your letter by March 16, 2024 and/or if you do not address all violations, a return visit to your program will be made to monitor for compliance of violations and to obtain your compliance letter. Additional violations may be documented if the situation has not been corrected or addressed. You were provided an opportunity to ask questions regarding interpretation and implementation of all child care requirements. Child care licensing rules and regulations are established to ensure a safe and healthy environment for children in care. Therefore, it is important for you to be knowledgeable of all of the licensing requirements that apply to your program. It is your responsibility to maintain compliance with all of the applicable laws and rules at all times. The best way for you to make sure that you are meeting all requirements is to periodically review the child care law and rules. Both are available on the DCDEE website https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/ , on the home page under the ‘Services’ tab. Consultation/Technical Assistance We reviewed the menus and discussed some other ideas on snacks that are lower in sugar. In the classroom for toddlers there was a play kitchen, the accessories had been cleaned however they had not been put back into the classroom, we discussed making sure as soon as they are dry to return them to the classroom. I emailed a copy of the topical medication form and the activity plan form. Changing the activity plan form may assist in keeping activities a little more organized. RESOURCES The Health and Safety Trainings are offered on the DCDEE Moodle format. On the Division’s website look under the “SERVICES” tab for “DCDEE Moodle”. These trainings are free, and participants will receive training certificates when completed. Child care programs can order free posters from the NC Child Care Health and Safety Resource Center at https://healthychildcare.unc.edu/ . Thank you for your cooperation during today’s visit. The facility currently operates under a One Star License that was issued on January 24, 2019. The last annual compliance visit was conducted on March 31, 2023. The last sanitation inspection was completed June 28, 2023 with a “Superior” classification. I completed a walk-through of the facility where attendance was documented, and observations made. The children were observed playing freely in their classrooms and outside on their designated playgrounds. There were three new staff, their files were reviewed. During today’s visit, a partial assessment of applicable Child Care Requirements was conducted which included, General Licensing Requirements, Program Requirements, Staff Records, Staff Child Ratio, Supervision, Medications and General Safety. Today I observed one violation(s) regarding the Child Care Requirements Violation Number Comment Rule 1004 Person on site who was responsible for daily program planning and implementation did not have a high school or general education diploma. Two teachers did not have High School Diploma. 10A NCAC 09 .0704(a)(1) The above violation must be corrected immediately, and a letter must be sent to me no later than September 28, 2023 stating how each item was corrected and a plan to maintain compliance with the requirement.
