On 10/11/2022, I conducted an unannounced onsite inspection at Little Arrows Christian Daycare, along with child care licensing consultant Tania Allard. I conducted a walk-through inspection to determine if the center was following the ratio and group size requirements. I observed one child care staff member caring for five children. There were also two other child care staff members present and available to assist with child care if needed. I then met with child care staff member, Dana Clement and an interview was conducted. Ms. Clement is the lead caregiver in the pre-school room. The pre-school room is approved for 10 children, ages 30 months through age five years. There are only nine children enrolled in the pre-school room. The ratio must be maintained at a 1:8 ratio if there are children under three years of age. The ratio must be maintained at a 1:10 ratio if there are no children under three years of age. At no time has the pre-school room been out of ratio. Typically, there are never more than eight children in the room at a time as all the children do not attend at the same time or day. Normally there are five to six children present at the same time. If there are more than eight children; there is another child care staff member present to assist. There has never been a time Ms. Clement was out of ratio. Ms. Clement was able to show the sign in sheet for the pre-school room which showed the center has not been out of ratio. Ms. Clement reports there is a couple of children with behavioral problems and the child care staff members have asked for guidance from the licensee on how to provide quality of care to all the children when other children are acting up. Recently the center had Great Start To Quality come in to provide assistance when dealing with children with behavioral problems. The center has met as a team and been instructed that when a child is having behavioral problems and there is only one caregiver in the room; child care staff members can ask the licensee, Melissa Burton to assist as she is always present in the building and willing to assist. I then met with the program director, Stance Cannon and an interview was conducted. Ms. Cannon is the lead caregiver in the infant room. The infant room is approved for 4 children, ages birth through twelve months of age. There are only three infants enrolled in the infant room. The ratio must be maintained at a 1:4 ratio. The infant room is never out of ratio. The center currently has 16 children enrolled and has a capacity of 18 children. The center is never out of ratio. The licensee, Ms. Burton is always available to assist in providing child care if needed to ensure ratio is met. Recently the center had Great Start To Quality come and teach staff about social emotional support to ensure that the center is able to provide a safe, supportive, and interactive program to children who have behavioral problems. The center then held a staff meeting to ensure that the staff feel supported by the licensee as there are times when they may be within ratio but feel an extra caregiver is needed in a room in order to provide quality care to the children. The licensee, Ms. Burton assured the child care staff members that if they need another caregiver, she is always available to assist. 3 I then met with the licensee/licensee designee, Ms. Burton and an interview was conducted. The center is never out of ratio. There are three lead caregivers: one for each room. The infant room has four children enrolled and the room is required to be at a 1:4 ratio. The pre-school room has nine children enrolled and the room is required to be at either a 1:8 ratio or 1:10 ratio based on the youngest child's age. The pre-school room usually only has six or seven children present at a time. Further, she is available to assist in providing care if needed to ensure ratio is met. The toddler room has three children enrolled and the room is required to be at a 1:4 ratio. Ratio and group size
