R 400.1924 · ..................................................................... R 400.1924 Hand washing. (1) All personnel shall wash their hands appropriately and in the following manner: (b) After all of the following: (iii) Handling bodily fluids, such as mucus, blood, vomit, from sneezing, wiping, and blowing noses, from mouths, or from sores.

On 12/2/22, I interviewed Child A's Father. Child A has been attending Ms. Mashke's home child care for over a year. He has no concerns regarding the care that Ms. Mashke provides to Child A. He has full custody of Child A and Child A visits her mother every other weekend. He is not sure why this complaint was made regarding Child A being sick all the time. Child A has not had any serious illnesses. She is currently on an antibiotic due to stuffy nose and cough but was not diagnosed with any specific illness. Child A has not had croup or hand foot and mouth disease. There was one child that Ms. Mashke informed him that was diagnosed with respiratory syncytial virus 2 (RSV) a few weeks ago but that was it. She is good about keeping him informed of any illnesses in the child care. Ms. Mashke is strict about her illness policy and children cannot attend if they have certain symptoms. He has no concern regarding handwashing or the cleanliness of her home. I completed an onsite inspection at Ms. Mashke's home. I observed an illness policy posted at the entrance with all the other required licensing postings. The home was well kept and clean. Ms. Mashke was very knowledgeable regarding licensing rules and stated that she makes sure that hands are washed when required. Child A is currently on antibiotics. She believes that Child A's Father took her to the doctor on Monday. Child A has been sick for a while and spent the holiday weekend with her mother. Child A did not come to child care on Monday because she was still ill. Child A was present during the inspection and I did not observe her or any other child to be coughing, sneezing, or exhibiting any other visible symptoms of illness. Ms. Mashke said that there has been one confirmed case of RSV and there was a case of covid in a family member of one of the child care children. She keeps the parents informed of all illnesses that are reported to her. She showed me a text message on 10/30 that she reported to a parent that there was a case of RSV. She makes sure that she regularly cleans and sanitizes to cut down on illnesses. All the parents are pretty good about respecting the illness policy. On 12/5/22, I interviewed Child B's Mother. She has no concerns regarding illness at Ms. Mashke's home. She is always sanitizing things and her home is clean. Child B has attended the child care for over a year she trusts her with the care of Child B. Ms. Mashke has an illness policy that she had to sign when she enrolled Child B in child care. I interviewed Child C's Mother. Child C attends child care full time. She has no concerns regarding cleanliness of the home or handwashing. Child C (3 years, female) now even washes her hands at home before she eats. She did not do that before attending child care and she did not teach her to wash her hands. Ms. Mashke has an illness policy and it is posted at her home. She is vigilant about making sure children are not attending when they have certain symptoms. For example, a child must be fever free for 24 hours without any medication. Ms. Mashke informs her if there is a positive case of certain illnesses. A few weeks ago, there was a positive RSV case and she was informed. That is the only one that has been at the child care home. I interviewed Child E, Child F, and Child G's Mother. The children have been attending the child care home for four years. She has no concerns about cleanliness or handwashing. Her children now wash their hands without being asked because of attending the child care home. 3 Ms. Mashke informs her of illnesses and is good about making sure children stay home when ill. There has not been much illness at child care. In October she believes there was one case of RSV in the child care home. All the parents interviewed stated that their children love attending Ms. Mashke's home and they trust her with the care of their children.
