I conducted an unannounced onsite inspection at Ms. Sackett's home on 12/01/2020. I advised her of the allegations. Ms. Sackett stated that she does have a child that sleeps in a pack and play in what used to be her son's bedroom. It is now used as a storage room. I observed the storage room. It is located at the bottom of the stairs in the basement. There was a pack and play set up in the room with a smoke detector installed directly above the pack and play. Ms. Sackett advised that she put carpet in the room and covered the walls to fix it up. She thought it would be fine to use it since it was pack and play napping only. I reminded Ms. Sackett that space needs to be approved prior to child use and she would need to submit a request for modification if she wanted to continue to use the room. Ms. Sackett stated that the parents of the child sleeping in the pack and play had given a 2-week notice and she plans to close her child care facility in May 2021 so she will not need to use the space any longer. The room housing the furnace is accessed through the storage room. I observed cardboard boxes and Christmas presents within 4 feet of the furnace. I advised Ms. Sackett that these items needed to be moved and nothing should be stored within 4 feet of gas fired furnaces and water heaters. On 01/04/2021, I spoke with Child A's Mother, Child B and Child C's Mother, and Child D's Mother over the telephone. Child A's Mother and Child B and Child C's Mother stated that their children sleep on a mat in the main room of the basement with the other children. They were not aware of any children sleeping in a storage room. Child D's Mother stated that the storage room used to be Ms. Sackett's son's bedroom. There are times when Ms. Sackett does have a child sleep in a pack and play in that room, so they don't wake the other children or are not woken by the other children. Child D used to sleep in that pack and play and Child D's Mother stated that she did not have any concerns about that arrangement. I attempted telephone contact with Child E's Mother on 01/04/2021. I have not spoken with her as of the writing of this report. I conducted an exit conference with Ms. Sackett over the telephone on 01/07/2021. I reminded her that only space that had previously been approved could be used for child use. If she wanted to use additional child use space, she would need to submit a modification request.
