On 12/02/2020, a complaint was received stating that on Child A was taken to the child care without any burns. Around 11:30 am, Child A's Mother was contacted by the child care center after it was discovered that Child A had two blisters on left wrist. It was reported that there M were no injuries ot wris"Wen was a en to the child care earlier in the day. There are multiple workers that go in and out of Child A's classroom, but the main workers in the room are Maria and Nicole. It is unknown who caused the injury on Child A, but there was an unexplained injury on Child A on 611 W. OTTAWA • P.O. BOX 30664 • LANSING, MICHIGAN 48905 www.michiga.gov/tara • 517-335-1980 On 12/03/2020, and I conducted an onsite inspection at the child care center. During the onsite inspection, we interviewed the child care staff members and observed the room where Child A is enrolled. During the interview with Program Director Kali Wiseman, she was informed of the allegations. Ms. Wiseman stated that she did not believe the injury occurred at the child care center because there are no objects in Child A's classroom that could cause a burn. Ms. Wiseman added that the policy at the child care center when preparing bottles for infants is for the staff member to place a bottle in the automatic bottle warmer that is on a counter in a small kitchen area of the classroom. The bottle warmers are only in use when they warm up individual bottles. Ms. Wiseman added that the children are not allowed in the area where the bottles are warmed and that staff members are not allowed to hold children while they are preparing bottles. Ms. Wiseman indicated that Child Care Staff members Trista Sjogren, Myriah Bishop, and Nichole Barkley were the staff members with information regarding Child A's injury. Child care staff member, Trista Sjogren, stated that she has a at the child care center. On the day of the incident, she got a call from Ms. Barkley stating that she saw an injury on Child A's wrist. Ms. Sjogren then went to the room to look at the injury and she saw a boil on the outside of Child A's left wrist. She stated that the boil had not popped at the time that it was found. Ms. Sjogren informed Ms. Barkley that she would contact Child A's Mother and requested that Ms. Barkley monitor the injury throughout the time that Child A remained at the center. Ms. Sjogren then called Child A's Mother immediately after seeing the boil. Child A's Mother stated that she did not notice the injury that morning. A picture was sent to Child A's Mother through an app that is used to update parents of their child's activities throughout the day. Ms. Sjogren stated that the staff members initially thought the injury may have been the result of a as Child A had been. Ms. Sjogren also stated that she looked at theattendance record for the day and saw that Child A had arrived at the center at _ on the day of the incident. She had her first bottle at 10:45 and this was the time that injury was first observed. Ms. Sjogren does not have concerns about the care an supervision provided by the caregivers in Child A's classroom.
