On 2/22/22, Ms. Clement said that there is just one garbage can with no lid in the preschool room where they throw pull-ups and all the other kinds of garbage. On 2/24/22, I saw diaper pails with lids in the infant room, toddler room and preschool room. Only diapers, pull-ups and diapering supplies are place in these cans. Ms. Kitsos said she did not have a separate place to dispose of pull-ups in the preschool room on the first day the center was opened. When she realized this, she went and got one and it was in place in the preschool room on the second day the center was open. 3
- Violation
On 2/22/22, Ms. Clement said that there were toys in her room that were choking hazards and not age appropriate. One 3-year-old child in her room was found with a marble in her mouth that she had taken out of a math game. On 2/24/22, I asked Ms. Kitsos about this and I inspected the equipment in the classrooms. The equipment was age-appropriate. Sometimes older children do put things in their mouths that can be dangerous and this is why direct supervision is used with children of all ages.
- Violation
On 2/22/22, Ms. Clement said that the blankets and cots the center provided were not washed prior to using and that things are not being sanitized. On 2/24/22, Ms. Kitsos said the center provides sheets and blankets that are washed at the center. They have laundry equipment on-site. The cots are also washed and sanitized. On 4/18/22, Ms. Kitsos added that this happens at least weekly or more if needed. I was provided a copy of the laundry schedule for each room and verified this.
- Violation
On 2/22/22, Ms. Clement said that cots are not labeled for individual children and are not stored separately. 5 On 2/24/22, I looked at the cots. The sleeping sides of the cots were not touching because they were stored in stacks. Ms. Kitsos stated they are cleaned and sanitized weekly. They were not labelled for each child on the first day but were labelled shortly after that. The center-provided blankets are stored separately in each child's cubby.
- Violation
On 2/22/22, Ms. Clement said there were mouse droppings in the classrooms and in the kitchen prior to the center opening. When she talked to Mrs. Kitsos about this, she was told that they would not be hiring an exterminator for this until they had more money. On 2/24/22, there were no mouse droppings in the child approved rooms or in the kitchen. Ms. Kitsos said there had been a problem before the center opened. The maintenance staff treated the problem in several ways and they had not seen any droppings since. Baits and poison were set up. Openings found in the concrete were sealed. Some of the seals to doors were replaced. Ms. Kitsos said that if the center did end up needing an exterminator if the problem resurfaced, the pest management policy that they have written would be implemented.
- Violation
The bedding and sleeping surfaces for individual children are not coming in contact with each other.
- Violation
There was a problem with mice prior to the center opening that was handled by the maintenance crew. Currently, there are no signs of mouse infestation.
