On 07/14/2022, I conducted an onsite inspection. The children and child care staff members were outside on the playground. I observed 14 children and 3 child care staff members. I spoke with child care staff member Ms. Cekic who verified the number of children present with the sign in sheet. Ms. Cekic was not sure about the exact number of children enrolled in the summer camp program but states there are normally 17-18 children present daily. The children range in ages from 5 years old to 12 years old. Ms. Cekic was not sure which rooms were approved for child care use but stated they were using the media room because it is the only room with air conditioning. Ms. Cekic provided me with children's attendance and sign in sheets from 07/05/2022 to 07/14/2022. On 07/14/2022, I interviewed child care staff member, Katherine Teeples. Ms. Teeples said that there are typically three staff members everyday with the children. The number of children varies from day to day between 14 to 20 children. It has not been often that they have had more than 20 children present at one time. Ms. Teeples was unsure about the number of children enrolled in the summer camp but said about 25 children was the most they have had. On 07/15/2022, I interviewed program director, Lisa DeGuilio via telephone. Ms. DeGuilio said she believes rooms 1, 3, 5, and 7 are approved for child care use but they were only using the media room. Ms. DeGuilio explained that she was unsure if the media room was approved for child care use, but the other rooms were emptied for the summer. Ms. DeGuilio said there are typically 4 child care staff members daily including herself but not less than 3 staff members with 27 children enrolled in the summer camp. Ms. DeGuilio said the telephone in the media room does not work but the telephone in the front office works. They do not use the telephone in the office because it is in the front of the building. Parents are to use ClassDojo to communicate with the child care staff for opening the door when they arrive. Ms. DeGuilio provided me with staff attendance and time sheets from 06/27/2022 to 07/15/2022 via email. On 08/18/2022, I conducted an unannounced onsite inspection that included an exit interview with program director, Ms. DeGuilio. During the inspection, I observed 15 children and 3 child care staff members. The center has installed a doorbell on the pickup/drop-off door. Ms. DeGuilio shared that the telephone in the media room has been reconnected and now operable. I discussed the findings with Ms. DeGuilio including rule violations. I explained to Ms. DeGuilio that because the phone was not operable or accessible for parents and the child care staff members at the time of my onsite inspection on 07/14/2022, that I was establishing a violation. Ms. DeGuilio understood and completed a corrective action plan onsite. I confirmed with Ms. DeGuilio which rooms are approved for child care use, which includes the media room. I reviewed the 10/18/2017 modification report which confirms rooms 4, 6, 8, 10, 1A, 3, 5, 7, 9, multipurpose, gym, and media rooms are approved for child care use.
