On 09/16/2022 I spoke with the complainant. On 09/16/2022 I spoke with Child A and B's Mother. She said Mr. Brodberg is the husband to the licensee, Lori Brodberg and a child care staff member. 2 Approximately a year ago is when Child A and B's Mother began to notice differences in the child care home, and they have been attending the child care for roughly three years. They were told Child A was always a "good kid", but then started to come home with "naughty reports" for not listening, being aggressive, etc. almost every day. Child A started to be more aggressive at home as well and saying remarks like "Don't touch me", which isn't a response he would have heard at home. They have a gentle parenting approach and don't yell at Child A or Child B unless there is a safety concern and they were unsure of what was causing this aggression in Child A. Child A and B's Mother took Child A to the pediatrician and Child A began counseling in late July, early August of 2022. It was believed Child A had low self- esteem, which could trigger aggression. His counselor also commented that Child A does not cope well and if he were to get into trouble it was because he was shunned and labeled as a "bad kid". The other children at child care would say Child A is a liar during pick up. There was a time Child A asked what a whimp was and when asked why, he responded because this is what Mr. Brodberg calls the children at child care. Child A's is hair cut into a mohawk and Mr. Brodberg commented, "Oh that's fitting because boys with mohawks are naught." On 09/01/2022, Mrs. Brodberg butt dialed Child A and B's Mother, a voicemail was left, and Mr. Bordberg can be heard on the recording yelling and name calling at the children. Child A and B's Mother agreed to send the voicemail via text. Prior to the voicemail, Mrs. Brodberg called her to notify her that Child B had something in his eye and was crying, this happened at approximately 4:00PM. She was on her way to pick up when she received a missed call from the child care. In the voicemail Mr. Brodberg commented that he knew Child B was fake crying and he wouldn't believe him either because Child B is lying like his brother, and they need to keep up with the con. Child A and Child B had to pick up all the toys while the other children sat at the tables. When she arrived for pick up, she felt as if Mrs. and Mr. Brodberg knew they accidently left a voicemail because "they were overly nice" and Mr. Brodberg was playing with Child A and she has never seen this happen before. There was another time when she arrived for pick up, sometime within the last six months, exact date is unknown, Mr. Brodberg was "scolding" Child C and he was yelling so loud, she walked in asked what was going on and Mr. Brodberg said "See? It's not just your kid that gets in trouble". Child A and B's Mother denied Mr. Brodberg was ever physical with the children in front of her, but verbally degrading. Child A has said "I am not going to deal with you anymore" and she asked him who said that he replied, Mr. Brodberg tells the children this and not to be a baby. While Child A was in counseling, Child A said Mr. Brodberg is mad every day and never happy. Last year, Child D was the "naughty one" and then he went to kindergarten. Then Child A became the "naughty" child, and he was recently preparing to enter kindergarten. During their last week at child care, it was now Child B who was becoming the "naughty" child. There seems to be a pattern of labeling one child as the "naughty one" until they leave, and Mr. Brodberg finds another target. Child A and B's Mother texted Mrs. Brodberg to inform her of her concerns and that Child B will not be returning to her child care. Mr. and Mrs. Brodberg responded and 3 apologized. Mr. Brodberg, explained he would be leaving the child care as he has not been happy and apologized for what he has said to Child A. She said she used to love this child care and does believe Mrs. Brodberg is wonderful
