On November 2, 2020, I received a complaint that children were unsupervised during rest time. I did an onsite inspection on November 2, 2020. I observed rest time. There were two classes. Ms. Guinevere Abrams had six children present ranging from ages three to four years old. Ms. Christina Love had seven children present ranging from ages three to four years old. Both teachers were in their classrooms during rest time cleaning up from lunch and working on class work while I was present. The program director, Mrs. Shirley Wright-Hailey submitted a staffing plan indicating the number of staff who are employed at Little Scholars Christ the King. There are three staff employed at Little Scholars Christ the King: Ms. Guinevere Abrams, Ms. Christina Love and Ms. Sparkle Allen. Ms. Abrams and Ms. Love are childcare staff members who teach the preschool classes. Ms. Sparkle Allen has a dule role. She spends the morning at Little Scholars located at 19000 Grand River in Detroit and she relieves staff for lunch breaks at Little Scholars Christ the King located at 16800 Trinity Street in Detroit. On November 2, 2020, Ms. Sparkle Allen was not present due to being on a medical leave recuperating from having a surgical procedure. Ms. Shirley Wright-Hailey assumes the role of providing lunch breaks for staff while Ms. Sparkle Allen is absent during her medical leave. On November 2, 2020, I observed Mrs. Shirley Wright-Hailey relieve Ms. Love at 12:30pm while the children were resting on their cots. Ms. Love took her break during this time. When Ms. Love returned at 1:30pm, Mrs. Wright-Hailey relieved Ms. Abrams. Ms. Abrams took her break from 1:30pm-2:30pm. I observed the children being supervised during the time they were resting on their cots. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child A and B's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child A and B, two children who are enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. She said she visited the center during an early pickup and there was a teacher in the class sitting at the table when she arrived. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child C's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child C, a child who is enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. Ms. Thomas said she has never observed rest time, but she has no reason to feel her child is unsupervised. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child D's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child D, a child who is enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. Ms. Thompson said she has never observed nap time; however, she asks her son daily about his day. She said she is very thorough with her questions. Her son has never told her he was alone at rest time. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child E's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child E, a child who is enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. She 3 said she has never observed rest time. She said she when she is at the center, the children are always in the presence of a teacher.

On November 2, 2020 I received a complaint that there was a 1:18 ratio in the preschool class. I did an onsite inspection on November 2, 2020. There were eight children, ages three and four enrolled and six children present in Ms. Abrams class. There were eight children enrolled, ages three and four and seven children present in Ms. Love's class. I reviewed the attendance records from October 5th until October 30th. There was an average of six to eight children, ages three and four in each class daily. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child A and B's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child A and B, two children who are enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. Child A and B's mother stated she has only seen about eight children in each class since she has been a parent of the center. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child C's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child C, a child who is enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. Child C's mother stated that she visits the center and has never seen any more than eight children in her child's class as one time. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child D's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child D, a child who is enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. Child D's mother said she has only observed about seven or eight children in a class at one time. On November 16, 2020 I interviewed Child E's mother via a telephone call. She is the parent of Child E, a child who is enrolled at Little Scholars Christ the King. Child E's mother said when she is at the center, she sees about seven to eight children in her child's class.

On November 2, 2020 I received a complaint that the staff at Little Scholars Christ the King serves food without gloves and/or hand coverings. I did an onsite inspection on November 2, 2020. I observed lunch being served. They had chicken salad with ranch dressing, watermelon, and milk. The staff put on gloves before they served the food. The child care staff member, Ms. Christina Love showed me a cabinet in each room that contained a large boxes full of plastic gloves that are used for serving and handling food.

On November 2, 2020 I received a complaint that the staff allows the boys and the girls at Little Scholars Christ the King to use only the boy's restroom. The girl's restroom is at the other end of the corridor. On November 2, 2020 I did an onsite inspection. I observed two classes of preschoolers, ages three and four years old. Ms. Christina Love had seven children and Ms. Abrams had six children. I observed both classes going to the restroom. Ms. Christina escorted all the girls from both classes down the hall to the girl's restroom while Ms. Guinevere escorted all the boys from both classes to the boy's restroom. I interviewed Ms. Guinevere Abrams and Ms. Christina Love. Both childcare staff members stated they were instructed by Mrs. Shirley Wright-Hailey, the program director during a staff meeting that they were only to use the appropriate restrooms to allow privacy for both boys and girls while they were in the restroom.
