On 11/7/2021, I interviewed Child A's Mother by telephone. She stated on or about 10/28/2021, Child A was bitten by Child B. This happened about 11:00a.m. She was not informed of this incident until she picked him up at about 3:00p.m. She was told by a child care staff member (CCSM) she did not see what happened. She heard Child A scream and saw he had a bite mark. She stated they put Neosporin and a bandage on the bite mark. Child A's Mother stated that evening, she could still see the imprint of the bite. She did not seek medical attention. On 11/8/2021, I conducted an unannounced investigation at the center. I interviewed Cheryl Naison, the administrative assistant at the center. She stated she informed Child A's Mother when she arrived for pick up that Child A had been bitten by another child. Child A's Mother said it was no big deal and did not look at the bite mark. Child A continued to attend the center until 11/1/2021. I interviewed the assistant director, Krista Briggs. She stated she was not at the center when this happened but arrived shortly afterwards. The CCSMs followed appropriate protocol. The center's incident policy states an incident report will be completed and provided to the parents at pick up if it's a minor injury and there is no blood involved. I interviewed CCSM, Kierra Rivers. She stated Child A and Child B were not left alone. They were getting ready to go outside. Child A had a toy and Child B was trying to take it away from him. She was close by helping another child when Child B bit Child A. Child B is not a biter and so they were very surprised when this happened. The assistant in the classroom applied first-aid. The bite did not bleed. She showed me a picture. There was no broken skin just, redness around the imprint of the bite. She completed the incident report and provided it to Ms. Naison to put in Brightwheel. She told Child A's Mother when she arrived to pick him up and she said she would watch it. I interviewed CCSM Jen'a Sylvester. She stated Child A and Child B were not left alone when Child B bit Child A. There was no bleeding or puncture wound from the bite. She applied first aid to the bite. Child A was fine afterwards. Child B was not known to bite other children, so they were not expecting this type of behavior from him.
Child A (2-year-old male) was left unattended with Child B (2- year-old male) for a long period of time. Child A was bitten by Child B and no one saw it happened. 2
