On 8/3/2022, I conducted an unannounced inspection at the childcare center. I interviewed the program director Rose Pardiac. She stated a CCSM, reported Ms. Griffin and Child A were in the block area. Ms. Griffin was trying to get Child A to put away a shopping cart. Child A hit M.s Griffin and she picked him up and shook him saying "we don't hit." She then put him back down. Ms. Griffin was terminated as the center has a zero-tolerance policy regarding inappropriate discipline. I interviewed CCSM Jessica Emerson. She stated Ms. was Griffin trying to get Child A to cooperate and put away some toys and join the group in the book area. Child A hit Ms. Griffin and she picked him up by both arms and held him over her head and shook him and said, "we do not hit teachers," then threw him down. It happened really fast. Child A was not fazed. He did not have any injuries. He did not cry. Ms. Emerson has worked with Ms. Griffin for a while, and this was not typical behavior from her. I interviewed Valerie Cooper. She stated she has worked with Ms. Griffin and has not seen her lose control with the children. Ms. Griffin started as a volunteer grandparent and became a caregiver. It is not like her to harm a child. On 8/10/2022, I interviewed Child A's Mother by telephone. She stated she had no problem with the center and how they handled everything. Child A had no injuries. On 8/10/2022, I interviewed Rozie Griffin by telephone. She was very upset and remorseful about the allegations. She stated she does not remember shaking him. Child A hit her and she picked him up to make eye contact. She told him "You hurt me", "you cannot hit people". She sat him back down and he continued playing. He was not hurt, did not cry, and played with her for the rest of the day. While she feels she did not do anything wrong, she understands the center has a zero-tolerance policy and they had to let her go. Ms. Griffin stated she would never do anything to harm a child. 3
