During the renewal inspection, I observed the curtain wall being used to create a separate well-defined space without having a direct means of egress to the outside when the curtain wall is closed together. This was addressed last year during the interim inspection. The curtain wall needs to remain almost entirely open at all times or an additional means of egress needs to be constructed in that area. Qualified Fire Inspector Art Shaw approved the use of the black curtains as long as they met the requirements in R 400.8520(10) and the black curtains were allowed to be used in lieu of the divider wall not in addition to the wall divider.
