Based on written documentation, a child found a needle/pen under the gymnasium bleachers, took the lid from the pen and pricked his finger. Staff contacted Poison Control for direction in the event the pen contained medicine, such as insulin. Observation of the gymnasium revealed a multitude of items underneath and behind the bleachers, including items such as candy wrappers, trash, balls, and an excessive amount of dust and dirt. Interviews with staff revealed the child went to retrieve a ball from under/behind the bleachers and found a "pen". When the child tried to replace the lid on the pen, the child's finger was accidentally pricked.
