Upon entry of the childcare center on 08/19/2015 at 1:31 p.m., the DRCC Surveyor entered the center through the unlocked front door and observed twelve (12) children sleeping on cots. Continued observation revealed a staff member did not approach the surveyor and the surveyor searched around the front room attempting to find a staff member. In the search of finding a staff member, it was observed that the staff member responsible for the twelve (12) children was lying down on the windowsill of the large picture window, covered in a blanket with a blanket folded as a pillow and facing the window. The Surveyor then opened the squeaky gate at the entrance of the center and stepped around toward the staff member. At that time, the staff member turned toward the surveyor and jumped up asking if the surveyor was from STARS. The Surveyor responded with, “No, I am with licensing, the Division of Regulated Childcare.” The staff member then pointed to the posted license saying, “It is right there.” Continued walk through of the childcare center revealed another classroom located in the rear of the childcare center where a second staff member was lying on the floor with their eyes closed, faced toward the Surveyor, with six (6) children sleeping on cots in the classroom. Interview with the two (2) staff members revealed the ages of the twelve (12) children in the first classroom ranged from three to four-years old and the ages of the six (6) children in the second classroom ranged from two to three-years-old.

classrooms: Based on observation, the child care center failed to follow the most current policy of the American Academy of Pediatrics in regards to safe sleep placement. A three- month-old infant was observed sleeping in a crib while lying on his stomach. There were also two loose blankets in the crib that was not being used and one blanket draped over the side of the crib.
