Observation during lunch time revealed a pair of safety scissors had been placed in a cup at each table for the children to use in opening up packaged food items. Continued observation revealed a male child was taking the scissors and tapping his forehead with the handle portion of the scissors before passing them to a second male child who was opening and closing the scissors. Further observation revealed the scissors were then passed to a female child who attempted to cut the edge of the table before handing them to a fourth child who used the scissors to cut open a tube of yogurt. Ongoing observation revealed the four staff members in the room at the time were assisting other children and did not redirect the three children that were playing with the scissors inappropriately.
