During an complaint investigation, it was determined that on February 24, 2026, at approximately 2:50 p.m., after diapering an 18-month-old child, the staff member conducted handwashing using a portable sink. While rinsing the child’s hand, the child cried, and the staff member checked the water temperature and the water felt hotter than usual. The child’s left hand was red and swollen with blistering and discoloration. Staff failed to ensure the water temperature was at an appropriate temperature before utilizing the water for handwashing which resulted in a burn injury to the 18-month-old child’s left hand. The child required professional medical attention and was diagnosed with a second degree burn and an intact blister on the left hand as a result of the incident.

During an incident investigation, it was determined on February 24, 2026, at approximately 2:50 p.m., there was one staff member supervising four 1-year-old children in a classroom. While conducting handwashing following diapering, the staff person washed the 1-year-old child hands, and the child began crying shortly after their hands were placed under running water. The water temperature was not at an appropriate temperature before utilizing the water for handwashing practices, which resulted in a burn injury to the 1-year-old child’s left hand. The child’s left hand was observed to blister, and management was notified. The child’s parent was notified of the child’s burn injury and provided verbal consent for the child to be given pain relief medication. Center staff failed to have the child’s parent complete or sign parental authorization when they arrived at the facility. The child required professional medical attention and was diagnosed with a second degree burn and an intact blister on the left hand as a result of the incident.
