13-04 · Indoor Play Areas FDCH/LFCCH Handbook
During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed a screwdriver lying on a table in the children's play area. A heater which was turned off was located on the floor of the play area. A leaf blower and extension cord were located at the front door entrance were children have to past through to get into home. Provider removed the screwdriver, heater, leaf blower and extension cord and put them out of reach of children. Licensing Specialist observed an excessive amount of dust on the ceiling fan and around the play area. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, section 7.5 Indoor Play Areas B. All areas of the home including the play areas shall be in good repair, clean and free from litter, nails, glass, and other hazards

During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed that the two nails were no longer protruding out of the bottom right corner of the wooden fence in the outdoor play area. During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed that the fence in the backyard was unlocked that led to hazardous material (wood, debris, trash). Provider locked the gate preventing access during the time of inspection. Licensing Specialist observed a water hose stretched across entire play area which could cause a tripping hazard to the children. Provider removed the water hose and placed it out of reach of children during the time of inspection. Licensing Specialist observed sharp sticks and wires in outdoor play area. Provider removed the sticks and wires during the time of inspection. This standard was brought back into compliance during the time of inspection. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, section 7.6 Outdoor Time, Fencing and Play Area Requirements A. Outdoor Play areas shall be clean, in good repair and free from litter, nails, glass, and other hazards. L. All equipment, fences, and objects on the homes premises shall be free from sharp, broken and jagged edges and properly placed to prevent overcrowding or safety hazards in any one area. N. The outdoor play areas and equipment shall be inspected prior to usage daily for basic health and safety, including, but not limited to: 1. Missing or broken parts; 2. Protrusion of nuts and bolts; 3. Rust and chipping or peeling paint; 4. Sharp edges, splinters, and rough surfaces; 5. Stability of handholds; 6. Visible cracks; 7. During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed two plastic bags full of dirty diapers lying on the floor of play area which was accessible to the children. Provider removed bags of diapers and placed them in a covered container. This standard was brought back into compliance during the time of inspection. Licensing Specialist observed exposed cords, gardening supplies such as cow manure, potting mix, fertilizer, plant food in the outdoor area where children walk through to enter into the home. During the time of the inspection Child Care Licensing observed the playground to have a large table next to the door with many items stacked on it. The items were a red electric fryer with a black plastic container stacked on top of it with stuff in it. other items were toys and cubby buckets stacked on it. Next to the table was a big gray storage container with a pink storage container inside of it and they were both filled with water. The back left side of the playground had high grass with high weeds covering the area. The playground had 2 blue ripped and broken umbrellas located in the middle of the playground. There was a blue playpen on the playground with water and leaves in it and it had a mat and a rug laying in it. The provider had 2 garbage cans on the playground full of water. During the time of the inspection Child Care Licensing observed that the provider could not provide a written schedule for cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting equipment, materials, furnishings and play areas on a daily and/or weekly basis. During the time of the inspection Child Care Licensing observed the children's bathroom did not have a handwashing procedure sign posted for the children. This was corrected at the time of the inspection as the provider placed a framed copy of the hand washing sign in the children's bathroom. Technical Assistance was provided by the Child Care Licensing counselor. Child care personnel and children shall wash their hands with soap and running water, dry thoroughly, and follow personal hygiene procedures for themselves or while assisting others, and immediately after outdoor play. Situations or times that children and child care personnel must perform hand hygiene should be posted in all food preparation, diapering and toileting areas. The operator, substitutes, employees, volunteers and children shall abide by the Centers for Disease Control guidelines for handwashing incorporated by reference in 65C-22.001(7)(u), F.A.C. During the time of the inspection Child Care Licensing observed the provider to be using a playpen mat to do diaper changing on. The mat was not impermeable.
