The Early Learning Coalition observed five incidents in which children walked to the restroom from the classroom without supervision. On one occasion, a child left the classroom alone and was alone in the hallway. The occurrence happened again with another child, and the teacher came afterward. The Licensing Specialist (LS) gave technical assistance and said children should always be supervised

Licensing observed a gap in the fence of more than 3.5 inches, in the connection between the gate and the fence. Licensing provided technical assistance explaining the outdoor play area must have adequate fencing or walls a minimum of 4 feet in height. Fencing, including gates, must be continuous and must not have gaps or openings larger than 3 inches that would allow children to exit the outdoor play area
