33-01 · Training Requirements
Specialist observed that a teacher had been in and out of the industry since 2021 without completing the mandated training that is required within the first year, even with a break in service. The teacher is no longer employed. Beginning Training Childcare personnel including volunteers who work 10 hours or more per month must begin training within 90 days of employment in the childcare industry and successfully complete Department's training within 12 months from the date training begins. Training taken prior to employment in the childcare industry does not constitute "begin Training". The "begin training" timeframes begin at the time of employment un the childcare industry. Training completion may not exceed 15 months from the date of employment in the childcare industry in any licensed Florida Childcare facility. This may be accomplished by classroom attendance in a Department-approved training course, acquiring an educational exemption from a Department- approved training course, beginning a Department-approved online childcare training course, or by receiving results from a Department-approved competency examination. The childcare program is responsible for obtaining training documentation from childcare personnel

Pursuant to the Child Safety Alarm bill in 2021, all vehicles used to transport children by childcare facilities and large family childcare homes must be equipped with a reliable alarm system which prompts the driver to inspect the vehicle for children before exiting the vehicle. Counselor observed that the rugs in the classrooms needed to be cleaned. The director provided a receipt for the cleaning dated 2/24/2023. On counselor's follow up visit on 4/7/2023, the floors and rugs were observed to be clean. The Child Care Facility Handbook states on page 20: 3.1 General Health and Safety Requirements A. All child care facilities must be clean, in good repair, free from health and safety hazards and from evidence of, or presence of, vermin infestation. Indoor play areas must be inspected daily for basic health and safety and documented on a daily inspection log. Outdoor play areas must be inspected daily for basic health and safety. Any problems must be corrected before the play area is used by children. Documentation of the indoor play area inspection must be maintained for 12 months
