75-24 · Violation
An investigation was conducted on 8/1/23. During the investigation the center director was interviewed. In regards to the allegation of the child not being fed, the center director M.Z. stated that all children are provided a school lunch. The child in question was offered both the food that was provided from the school in addition to the food that was brought in by the parent and the child refused to eat both. CCLE staff observed food service during the complaint inspection and observed that all students were served lunch in addition to those that brought food from home. This part of the the allegation is deemed Unsubstantiated. In regards to the allegation of retaliation and dismissal from the program, the center director M.Z. stated that she explained the parent that it was in the best interest of the child and the preschool to separate ways. An expulsion policy is included in the preschool handbook which states: "A young child may be suspended for up to two weeks if the misbehavior does not significantly improve. In the event that the caregivers and parents working together cannot resolve the problem, it may be necessary to remove the child from the program. Allowing children to remain in programs where they are not experiencing success is detrimental to that childs self-esteem. Many times, these children simply need a smaller group setting where they can receive more adult attention." The expulsion policy was emailed to the parent. The parent subscribed to the handbook but did not have a signature of acknowledgement. This area of the complaint is deemed SUBSTANTIATED. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS GIVEN TO ADD A STATEMENT TO THE EXPULSION POLICY THAT INCLUDES VERBAGE FAMILIES CAN BE DISMISSED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE FACILITY AS THEY DEEM NECESSARY
