20-05 · Crib Requirements
Infant observed sleeping in crib on a Boppy pillow. Boppy pillow was removed. When napping or sleeping, young infants who are not able to roll over must be positioned on their backs and on a firm surface to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, unless an alternate position is authorized by a physician. Sleep sacks that fit according to manufacturers recommendations, do not restrict the infants arms, and will not slide up around the infants face may be used for the comfort of the sleeping infant; however, swaddling shall not be used unless authorized in writing by the childs physician. Written documentation of a physicians authorization must be on file at the facility. Documentation must include the childs name, childs date of birth, description of sleep position required, instructions for the use of any equipment needed, and length of time authorization is valid

There are several classroom windows throughout the facility that do not close properly. The blue cabinet in the bathroom has peeling paint on the front. All child care facilities must be clean, in good repair, free from health and safety hazards and from evidence of, or presence of, vermin infestation. Indoor play areas must be inspected daily for basic health and safety and documented on a daily inspection log. Outdoor play areas must be inspected daily for basic health and safety. Any problems must be corrected before the play area is used by children. Documentation of the indoor play area inspection must be maintained for 12 months

Infant room observed with Boppy pillows and blankets in cribs. Staff removed blankets and Boppy pillows from cribs. All personnel that care for infants must follow safe sleep practices as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as referenced in Caring for Our Children Basics Health and Safety Foundations for Early Care and Education, which is incorporated by reference in 65C-22.001(7)(v), F.A.C. Cribs or playpens/play yards used for infants must have tight fitted sheets and no excess bedding, which includes but is not limited to: bumper pads, hanging mobiles, quilts, comforters, receiving blankets, pillows, stuffed animals and cushions
