[19a-87b-17(b)(1) and/or 19a-87b-17(b)(2)] · Prior to the administration of any medication other than nonprescription topical medications, the provider and any substitute(s) who are responsible for administering the medications shall be trained in the methods of administration of medications and in the specific route by which the medication will be administered and shall receive written approval from the trainer indicating that the trainee has successfully completed such training. A provider or substitute trained and approved to administer medication shall be present whenever a child who has orders to receive medication is enrolled and present at the family child care home. Training approval documents and outline shall be maintained on site at the family child care home.

[19a-87b-17(b)(5)] · Medication shall be stored in the original child-resistant safety container and appropriately labeled. Except for nonprescription topical medications and emergency medications, medication shall be stored in a locked area or a locked container, in a refrigerator in keeping with the label directions away from food and inaccessible to children and unauthorized personnel. Controlled medication shall be stored as required by statute. Emergency medications shall be stored in a safe manner, inaccessible to other children, to allow for quick access in an emergency.
