2.138.A · Emergency drills, lockdown and active shooter on premises drills must be held at least quarterly but often enough so that all occupants are familiar with the drill procedure and their conduct during a drill is a matter of established routine. Fire drills must be held monthly and be consistent with local fire department procedures. Tornado drills must be held monthly from March to October. A record of all emergency drills held over the past twelve (12) months must be maintained by the facility or center, including date and time of drill, number of adults and children participating, and the amount of time taken to evacuate.
In a review of program emergency drills, it was observed that no fire drill was documented for November 2024. On the outdoor playground (Toddler and Preschool) sections of the planter wood had warped and left a large gap with sharp edges exposed. In the preschool classroom (room 149) a large puddle of water had formed on the wood floor walkway beneath the water filling station posing a slip hazard. Correction: Indoor and outdoor equipment, materials, and furnishings must be sturdy, safe, and free of hazards. The wooden panels on the outdoor playgrounds need to be secured or nailed down flush so no gaps or sharp edges are exposed. Correct immediately. The gap on the playground surfacing should be filled. Correct immediately. The water in the preschool room needs to be dried and a plan put into place to prevent the water from spilling directly onto the floor and creating a slip hazard.
