102417(g)(4) · Operation of A Family Child Care Home (g) The home shall be free from defects or conditions which might endanger a child. Safety precautions shall include but not limited to: (4) Poisons, detergents, cleaning compounds, medicines, firearms and other items which could pose a danger if readily available to children shall be stored where they are inaccessible to children.
Deficient Practice Statement Based on observation, the home had 4 areas of concern in on-limit areas; 3 in the kitchen and 1 in the restroom. A cabinet under the counter to the left side of the kitchen sink had poisonous chemicals stored, one with a lock & one with a latch. The cabinet above the counter in the exact same spot had a cabinet full of medicine, both prescription and over-the counter, and available with no lock or latch. Also observed were at least 3 different cleaning detergents sitting on the kitchen counter, also poisonous to the children in care. Additionally, the restroom had cleaning chemicals stored under the restroom sink. These items were made accessible to the children in care, and pose an immediate health, safety or personal rights risk to the children in care. POC Due Date: 06/05/2025

When circumstances require the licensee to be temporarily absent from the home, the licensee shall arrange for a substitute adult to care for and supervise the children during his/her absence. Temporary absences shall not exceed 20 percent of the hours that the facility is providing care per day.
